Former Springbok lock Andries Bekker has announced his retirement from rugby.

Bekker made his debut for the Springboks in 2008 against Wales in Bloemfontein and earned 29 Test caps.

In 2013, he left the Stormers and Western Province to join Japanese side, the Kobe Kobelco Steelers.

The 34-year-old confirmed his retirement after the Steelers’ final game of the season, when they beat Toshiba Brave Lupus in the fifth-place playoff on Saturday.
