Blitzboks captain up for award

Kyle Brown has been listed as one of four nominees for the IRB Sevens World Player of the Year award.

Having lead the Blitzboks to Cup wins in Port Elizabeth and Las Vegas, Brown has been recognised following a number of eye-catching performances this season.

He will face stiff competition though in the form of reigning World Player of the Year, Tim Mikkelson from New Zealand. England captain Tom Mitchell and Fijian flyer Samisoni Viriviri round out the nominees.

Cecil Afrika was the last South African to win the award back in 2011, and both he and Brown will miss this weekend's tournament in London through injury.

The winner will be announced at a function following the final round in London.
