Blue Bulls lash Leopards XV

The Blue Bulls beat the Leopards XV 46-25 in their second-round Vodacom Cup match in Pretoria on Friday, while there were also wins for the Pumas and Golden Lions.

The Leopards opened the scoring at Loftus B, but were eventually outscored seven tries to three by the Bulls, which included a try from Bok flank Arno Botha.

First-half tries from Botha, Arno van Wyk, captain Marvin Orie and Travis Ismaiel helped the hosts to a comfortable 29-22 advantage at the break.

The second stanza was much more one-sided, courtesy of three more scores from centres Marquit September and Jade Stighling and flank Nardus van der Walt. Kobus Marais added five kicks at goal – four conversions and a penalty – to complete the Bulls' second win in as many matches.

In the only other matches this weekend, the Pumas hammered Namibia's Welwitschias 61-7 in Windhoek, with fullback Heinrich Steyl and former EP Kings wing Marcello Sampson bagging a brace apiece. In Polokwane, the Golden Lions were made to work hard for their 31-21 victory over the Limpopo Blue Bulls.
