Boishaai still unbeaten

Paarl Boys’ extended their winning streak to 25 matches by beating Outeniqua 29-27, while there were also wins for Affies, Paul Roos and Grey College.

Boishaai were made to work hard for the away win as they trailed 17-14 with 10 minutes to go and then 27-22, before fullback Gianni Lombaard converted his own late try to secure the victory. Paarl Boys' have won all five of their matches this season, showing why they are ranked No 1 in the country.

Meanwhile, Paul Roos faced a tough challenge at home against Grey High in the first Premier Interschools clash of the season, but were equal to the task, winning 36-21 to avenge their 27-26 loss at the same venue in 2014. The home side led by 15 points at the break thanks to tries from flank Hanré du Toit (two), hooker Daneel Steinman and centre Lyle Hendricks. They then did well to weather a Grey fightback in the second half to secure the win.

In KwaZulu-Natal, Affies ran in 10 tries on their way to a crushing 62-0 win against Westville Boys’ High. Lock Henk Pretorius, wingers Carel Koch (three) and Christian Strydom (two), outside centre Marnus Potgieter (two) and fullback Tristan Janse van Vuuren (two) crossed the whitewash for the Pretoria school. Flyhalf Ruan de Swardt contributed 12 points with the boot.

Grey College thrashed Maritzburg 60-13 in Bloemfontein, running in seven tries against their KZN rivals. The hosts took a 38-3 lead into the break and scored another three tries in the second half.

In Gauteng, Jeppe ran riot at home against Pretoria Boys' High, scoring nine tries to win 59-18, while in the Eastern Cape, Selborne beat Grens 38-5, dedicating the win to their coach Phiwe Nomlomo, who is leaving the school for a coaching post at Saru.
