Coetzee could still be sacked

Allister Coetzee's future as Springbok coach will be decided at the end of January, according to SA Rugby president Mark Alexander.

Coetzee had a nightmare first season in charge of the Boks, with eight defeats in 12 Tests, including a record defeat to the All Blacks in Durban and a first ever loss to 13th-ranked Italy.

While it would reportedly cost SA Rugby R13-million to sack Coetzee, as he still has three years left on his contract, the organisation may yet decide to take the financial hit and appoint a new coach.

'We’re not sure which way we’re going, whether we’re keeping Allister or not,' Alexander told City Press newspaper. 'We still have presentations to go through but no formal decision has been made on whether we’re going forward with him or not.

'At the end of January we’ll make an announcement on whether we’re keeping him.'
