Crusaders edge Chiefs

The Crusaders fought back from a 17-9 deficit to beat the Chiefs 18-17 in Hamilton on Saturday.

The game was in the balance until the final play. Chiefs flyhalf Gareth Anscombe had an opportunity to win the game for the hosts, but his penalty goal attempt from 52m out fell short.

The Chiefs dominated the first half and looked to be cruising to a comfortable victory. But the Crusaders fought back in the second stanza, and goal-kicker Colin Slade converted the bulk of their opportunities into points.

The win is an important one for the Crusaders, who are now just three log points behind the Chiefs in the New Zealand conference.
