English champs snap up Kings lock

Kings lock Wilhelm van der Sluys has signed a one-year deal with English Premiership winners the Exeter Chiefs.

The 25-year-old is the latest player from the Kings’ Super Rugby squad to confirm a move away from Port Elizabeth, despite the Kings gaining entry into a European competition widely believed to be the Pro14.

Van der Sluys joined the Kings for the 2017 season following stints at Western Province, Worcester Warriors, Rotherham Titans and London Scottish.

He agreed a deal to join Exeter for the 2017-2018 European season and will play alongside his former WP teammate Don Armand at Sandy Park.

‘I’m very excited to be here, I’ve only heard good things about the club and I cannot wait for the opportunity that lies in front of me,’ said Van der Sluys.

‘It always helps seeing a familiar face with a guy like Don Armand. He’s done incredibly well for himself since moving here, but speaking to other players in England, they say only good things about this club. They talk about Exeter having good values and a great work ethic, so I’m grateful to now be part of it.’
