Injury blows for Blitzboks

Blitzboks star Justin Geduld has been ruled out of the remaining four tournaments of the World Rugby Sevens Series as the result of a foot injury.

Geduld underwent surgery on Wednesday after suffering the injury at the Las Vegas Sevens, and will be out of action for six months to nine months.

Stephan Dippenaar will also have to undergo surgery for a foot injury he sustained in Vancouver last weekend, which will keep him on the sidelines for three to six months.

In addition, Rosco Speckman has been ruled out of the next two tournaments in Hong Kong and Singapore with a hamstring strain, while the Blitzboks are awaiting scan results that could also sideline Branco du Preez for a number of weeks.

To add to the Blitzboks' woes, Ruhan Nel has bone bruising to his ankle, and requires rest, with the expected time of recovery set between three to four weeks, while the same applies to Cecil Afrika, who has a hamstring strain.

Carel du Preez was earlier ruled out of the next tournament due to a back injury.

The only bit of good news is that Tim Agaba has been cleared to train with the team when they return to their Stellenbosch base next week.

The squad will assemble again on 22 March to start their preparations for the Hong Kong tournament from 7-9 April, which will be followed by the Singapore Sevens on 15 and 16 April.
