Jones: I’d consider England job

Eddie Jones would be willing to enter into talks about taking on the England coaching job if Stuart Lancaster was removed from his post.

England became the first host nation to fail to progress beyond the pool stage of the World Cup after losing to the Wallabies on Saturday, and Lancaster’s future is understandably in the balance.

Ian Ritchie, the chief executive of English rugby’s governing body, has said a full review will now take a place, but that there would be no knee-jerk reactions.

Jones agreed that Lancaster deserved a fair review process, but admitted he would consider the role if England decided to look at a replacement and made an approach.

‘It’s not the sort of job I’ll go out chasing, but I’d certainly chat to them if they thought I was the right man for the role,’ Jones wrote in the Daily Mail.

Jones was recently appointed as Stormers coach, and was expected to arrive in Cape Town after completing his commitments with Japan at the World Cup.
