Kolbe produces in Pretoria

Cheslin Kolbe's ability from broken play gave him the edge in Saturday's derby at Loftus Versfeld, writes BRENTON CHELIN.

Heading into the final quarter with the game evenly poised, Kolbe's decision to launch a counter-attack from deep inside the Western Province half led to Seabelo Senatla's match-winning try.

Kriel, in only his second Currie Cup start, had a solid game in his own right, producing some strong runs from the back and playing a hand in the Blue Bulls' late try. It was his missed tackle on Senatla, though, that allowed the sevens star to go over for one of the early contenders for try of the season.

In the end, Kolbe took the points decision courtesy of his greater influence in a thrilling second half, where he was a constant threat with ball in hand.
