Flyhalf Willie du Plessis will join Montpellier from Top 14 rivals Bayonne on a short-term contract.

Du Plessis will link up with several compatriots at Montpellier on a deal that will see him play for coach Jake White's side until the end of the current season.

The 26-year-old first moved abroad in 2015 to join Toulon as a medical joker during the World Cup, before signing for Bayonne last year. Du Plessis will return to Bayonne next season.
