Proudfoot joins Coetzee in Japan

Stormers forwards coach Matt Proudfoot will join Allister Coetzee at the Kobe Kobelco Steelers in the Japanese Top League.

The 42-year-old Proudfoot decided against renewing his contract with the Western Province Rugby Union, instead opting to link up with Coetzee at the Steelers ahead of the new Japanese season.

Proudfoot may, however, still be of service to the Cape union, with WP director of rugby Gert Small expressing his wish to keep him on their books on a consultancy basis.

'Like with Allister, it was always our intention to retain Matt's services, but that said, you cannot stand in somebody's way should they feel like a change after years of loyal service', said Smal. 'I have spoken to them about that and we will make an announcement as soon as we have 100% clarity.'

Proudfoot was the Western Province and Stormers forwards coach for seven years from 2009 to 2015.
