‘Reinach, Lambie were superb’

Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer lauded the performance of halfbacks Cobus Reinach and Pat Lambie against England, reports MARK KEOHANE at Twickenham.

Meyer attributed the success of the match to a superior tactical approach and execution and a pack whose set piece, he felt, was outstanding.

Meyer told the media that Reinach was superb in his first Test start and that Lambie proved himself a match-winner in northern hemisphere conditions.

Meyer said Francois Hougaard and Handré Pollard were quality halfbacks but the occasion demanded the skills of Lambie, and that the player vindicated his selection against England.

'I don't think he has lost a Test that he started in the northern hemisphere, so that says something,' joked Meyer. 'Pat has done very well whenever given a chance and I thought he tactically played very well. He made the odd kicking error but he showed composure and had a calming influence on the entire team.'

Springbok captain Jean de Villiers felt the decision-making on defence was very good and that mentally the Boks were switched on, as opposed to a week ago against Ireland in Dublin.
