Spies out for season

  • 25 Jun 2013

Pierre Spies will be unavailable for the Bulls and the Boks for the rest of the year because of a bicep injury.

Spies tore the muscle during the Springboks' 56-23 win over Samoa in Pretoria on Saturday. The Bulls captain saw two specialists in Johannesburg and Pretoria for opinions and ultrasound scans revealed the damage. He will undergo surgery on Tuesday.

Bulls team doctor Org Strauss confirmed that the operation will force Spies to miss the closing stages of Super Rugby, the Rugby Championship and the end-of-year tour to Europe.
