Steenkamp, Butch cited for foul play
- 07 Jul 2013
Bulls lock Wilhelm Steenkamp has been cited for headbutting Butch James at Loftus, while the Sharks flyhalf could receive further punishment for his high tackle on replacement Jürgen Visser.
Steenkamp is alleged to have contravened Law 10.4 (a) Punching or Striking when he made contact with James in the 63rd minute at a ruck with his head. James complained to the referee about it but the TMO could not find any evidence of foul play.
Upon further review of the match footage the citing commissioner deemed in his opinion the incident had met the red card threshold for foul play
However, James himself has been cited for his reckless stiff-arm tackle on Visser in the 72nd minute that saw him yellow-carded.
James is alleged to have contravened Law 10.4 (e) Dangerous Tackling.
Upon further review of the match footage the citing commissioner deemed in his opinion the incident had met the red card threshold for foul play.
