Steyn’s red card costs Montpellier

Frans Steyn was sent off in the 27th minute of Montpellier's European Champions Cup match against Leinster, who went on to record a crushing 57-3 win in Dublin.

Steyn received his marching orders after a high tackle on opposite number Johnny Sexton.

At that stage, Leinster were leading 14-3, after scoring two tries, and they would cross the line another six times against 14 men.

The Irish club booked their place in the quarter-finals of the tournament as a result, while Jake White's men, who still had a chance to qualify going into the game, were knocked out.

Prop Jannie du Plessis, lock Paul Willemse and No 8 Pierre Spies were the other South Africans to start for Montpellier.
