Venter to plot Boks’ downfall again

Brendan Venter will be in Italy's coaching box when they play against the Springboks on 15 November.

On Sunday, SA Rugby announced that the former Bok centre had joined the national team in a consulting capacity as their new defence and exits coach.

At the Bok training camp in Stellenbosch on Monday, head coach Allister Coetzee could not confirm or deny whether Venter’s appointment was permanent. However, he said Venter would 'not miss a training session'.

Venter was Italy's defence coach during the Six Nations, and while he won't be involved with them for their June Test matches, he will be in November.

'Brendan is not a full-time coach and it was already agreed he wasn't going to attend Italy's summer tour before the SA Rugby announcement was made,' Italian rugby's media officer Andre Cimbrico confirmed to Sport24 via email on Tuesday.

'He will be back working for FIR [Italian Rugby Union] ahead of November's internationals until the end of his stint, in November 2019 when the World Cup ends.'

That means Venter will once again be plotting the Boks' downfall.

Italy, with Venter as their defence coach, beat South Africa for the first time ever in Florence last November.
