Durbell crowned open-club kings

Flyhalf Garth April kicked a late penalty to give Durbanville-Bellville a 31-30 win against Rustenburg Impala in the Community Cup final on Monday.

While mistakes at crucial times and turnovers at the rucks cost Durbell in the first half, they forced the hosts to work hard for their points.

Impala scored two tries to Durbell’s one for a narrow 12-10 lead at the break.

The second half was equally tense as both teams scored two tries, but excellent goal-kicking by Durbell, which saw April kick a late penalty, secured them the victory.

In other matches on Monday, Hamiltons thrashed Despatch 66-40 to finish third, Pretoria Police beat College Rovers 37-15 in the Plate final, and Wanderers defeated Wesbank 45-35 to finish seventh.
