Sexton played through the pain

Johnny Sexton played the final Test of the British & Irish Lions’ series against New Zealand with a fractured wrist and ruptured ankle tendon.

According to reports in the Irish media, Sexton fractured his wrist in the second Test against the All Blacks, but still went on to start the deciding third Test at flyhalf.

He then ruptured a tendon in his ankle during the first half of the final Test, but strapped that up and played on until the final seven minutes, despite also needing to undergo a second-half head injury assessment.

The Lions ultimately held on to draw the third Test 15-15, while leaving the series level at 1-1.
