Grey College will be eager to bounce back from their loss to Monument when they host Paarl Boys' in a Mutual & Federal Premier Interschools clash on Saturday.
Last year's No 1-ranked South African school is currently fifth on the FNB Top 20 rankings. They drew 34-34 with Diamantveld in their season-opener, narrowly defeated HTS Middelburg 22-19 and EG Jansen 17-15 and then lost 17-7 to Monument at the Wildeklawer Super Schools festival on Monday.
Boishaai are second on the rankings having won nine matches, including victories against Garsfontein (32-9), Monument (25-20) and Outeniqua (23-17).
The two schools first met in the '50s and have played 40 matches, with Grey winning 32, Boishaai six and two draws. Grey College won 15-10 in Paarl last year.
'Saturday's match will be determined by who is more hungry and more accurate, and the team that maintains possession and utilises it effectively,' says Boishaai 1st XV coach Sean Erasmus. 'Our backs have been doing the damage this season, and I was unhappy with the pack's performance in our last match [against EG Jansen at the Wildeklawer festival].'
Grey College Wessel du Plessis knows his team will be in for a tough encounter on Saturday.
'They are unbeaten so far this season, but we are looking forward to the match,' he said. 'We do not rely on individuals but a team effort.'
Meanwhile, Paul Roos is representing South Africa at the Rugby Youth Tournament in Japan. They thumped Higashi Fukuoka (Japan) 45-13 on Wednesday, and will play Kashiwa (Japan) on Thursday and Enisei-STM (Russia) on Saturday.
In the Tuks Series on Friday, EG Jansen will tackle Garsfontein with Monument up against Nelspruit.
