The Blitzboks powered into the Cup semi-finals of the Cape Town Sevens after thrashing Wales 33-0 on Sunday afternoon, writes CRAIG LEWIS at the Cape Town Stadium.

Again, this was a quarter-final performance to savour for the Springbok Sevens side, who hardly put a foot wrong as they demonstrated their superior pace, power and skill. The Blitzboks will next face New Zealand after the Kiwis overcame Kenya in their quarter-final.

After cruising through day one with comfortable wins over Russia, the USA and Australia, the Blitzboks proved far too strong for a Welsh side that they've beaten 40 times from 41 meetings.

Although Wales enjoyed the majority of possession early on, the Blitzboks again proved just how lethal they are on the counter-attack as Kyle Brown swooped on a loose pass and sent flyer Seabelo Senatla away for the opening try in the fourth minute.

The Blitzboks then demonstrated their other considerable strength at the breakdown as the in-form Werner Kok helped win a turnover, with the recycled possession ultimately enabling Cecil Afrika to dot down under the posts.

Nevertheless, the hosts weren't done just yet as they played out of their 22 after the regular seven minutes of the half had elapsed, and eventually Chris Dry was able to cross for the team's third try that sent them into a commanding 19-0 lead at the break.

The result was well and truly wrapped up just a minute after the restart when Kok broke clean through and generously set up a try for Ruhan Nel, while Rosko Speckman added the finishing touches when he scored with the final play of the game.

The Blitzboks' semi-final against New Zealand will kick off at 4.34pm.
