Cheetahs shake off the rust

The Cheetahs thrashed Shimlas 66-19 at Free State University on Friday, while their second-choice side lost 21-19 to Griquas.

Scrumhalf Kevin Luiters and replacement Cornal Hendricks both scored two tries for the Cheetahs against Shimlas, with flank Johannes Prinsloo, lock Francois Uys, flyhalf Elgar Watts, former Bulls centre Francois Venter, replacement Shane Gates, and winger Raymond Rhule also crossing the line. Watts kicked eight conversions.

The Cheetahs' second-choice side led 12-7 against Griquas at the break, before letting things slip in the second half.

The Cheetahs' next pre-season match is against the Pumas in Parys on 1 February. They have named a 36-man training squad for their week-long camp in Jeffreys Bay.
