The Vodacom Bulls have reportedly targeted an SA-born Scotland international from fellow Vodacom United Rugby Championship outfit Edinburgh as their next acquisition.
According to Rapport, playmaker Jaco van der Walt is being lined up to fill the void at the Bulls after veteran flyhalf Morne Steyn’s contract with the Highvelders ends in June.
Van der Walt, who joined Edinburgh from the Lions in 2017 and has two Test caps for his adoptive Scotland, has scored just three points from two starts in five matches in the 2022-23 URC.
Able to play flyhalf or fullback, the 29-year-old has also fallen out of favour with the national selectors, having made his last Test appearance in 2021.
He had his most successful season with Edinburgh in 2018-19 as the Scottish side reached the last eight of the Champions Cup, and enjoyed a personal triumph in claiming the Pro14 Golden Boot award, with a kicking accuracy of 86.84%.
A return to the Republic would see him potentially link up with Edinburgh teammate Henry Immelman, who will join the Bulls from 1 July.
The Pretoria outfit also officially announced the signing of Premiership and Champions Cup winner, Jannes Kirsten, with the utility forward set to make his comeback to Loftus Versfeld next season.
