Bulls lifeline for SP

Discarded Kings fullback SP Marais has joined the Bulls on a two-month contract, pending a medical.

Marais, who has just recovered from a knee injury, arrived in Pretoria earlier this week as cover for the injured Duncan Matthews. Should Marais be cleared, he will join the Bulls' player roster for at least the next two months.

The 26-year-old will be hoping to secure a long-term contract with the Pretoria-based franchise after being left out of the Kings squad for the 2016 season.

On Wednesday, the Bulls also confirmed that prop Hencus van Wyk had signed a short-term deal until May. He is still contracted in Japan, but a call will be made later this season whether or not to extend his contract.

Meanwhile, influential players Rudy Paige, Warrick Gelant and Burger Odendaal have all extended their contracts with the Bulls until October 2018.

'There can be no doubt that these players are sought after, and we are grateful that they have committed to remain part of the Bulls family,' high-performance manager Xander Janse van Rensburg commented. 'We are busy building something special with a new generation of players, and I am very pleased to have these guys staying on to help us with that process. It is comforting to know that world-class players like Rudy, Warrick and Burger see a future with us, and are committed to help us achieve our goals to become a special team.'
