Cheslin Kolbe is the top candidate in the race to be crowned World Rugby Player of the Year, according to SARugbymag.co.za readers.
Three Springboks have been nominated for World Rugby’s prestigious 2024 Player of the Year award, with Kolbe joined by South Africa’s most-capped player of all time, Eben Etzebeth and Pieter-Steph du Toit, who won the award in 2019. Irish No 8 Caelan Doris completes the list of nominees.
An SA Rugby magazine poll asked readers who deserved to be voted as World Rugby’s best player for the 2024 campaign and the results were clear. Cheslin Kolbe was the favourite, receiving more than 45% of the votes. Pieter-Steph du Toit gathered just under 38% of the vote while Eben Etzebeth trailed in third spot with 16% of votes.
It is clear where South African’s loyalties lie with Irish No 8 Caelan Doris receiving less than 1% of the vote, comfortably coming in last place.
