Coetzee set to join Bulls

Marcell Coetzee is set to be unveiled as the Vodacom Bulls’ latest signing on Monday in what has been described as the ‘biggest festive gift’.

Coetzee is known to have been on the Bulls and Jake White’s radar for some time, and the Springbok loose forward is now set to make the move to Pretoria from Ulster.

After overcome some injury troubles after first joining Ulster in 2016, Coetzee has made up for lost time over the last couple of seasons, and recently scooped up three awards at Ulster’s virtual awards ceremony in September

Coetzee’s outstanding performances in the 2019-20 season – during which he made 506 run metres, 273 carries, 199 tackles and 19 turnovers in 28 appearances – were recognised with three awards at the club’s annual ceremony.

The 29-year-old Coetzee was named the Ulster Supporters’ Club Player of the Season, scooped the Rugby Writers’ Player of the Year gong, and was voted for as Ulster’s Personality of the Year.

On Christmas day, the Bulls tweeted a teaser post on social media, drawing attention to the announcement on Monday, but it is quite easy to spot that this is an image of Coetzee playing against Argentina on 8 August 2015.

It’s expected that Coetzee will link up with the Bulls ahead of the Pretoria-based franchise’s entry into the Pro16 next year.
