Combrinck in line for Bulls debut

The Bulls have made a handful of changes in naming a starting lineup to take on the Cheetahs at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday in the final round of the 2021 Currie Cup league phase.

The log-leaders will head into the clash in Pretoria having made some changes to the team that claimed a 33-26 victory over the Pumas at Mbombela Stadium a fortnight ago.

David Kriel returns to the backline at fullback, where he takes the place of Sibongile Novuka, while Madosh Tambwe has been included on the wing ahead of Stravino Jacobs. Scrumhalf Zak Burger is rested and Marco Jansen van Vuren takes over the scrum-feeding duties.

Up front, Jan-Hendrik Wessels will scrum down at hooker with Schalk Erasmus providing cover on the bench this week, while WJ Steenkamp starts at blindside flank.

On the bench, winger Ruan Combrinck will make his long-awaited debut since joining the side at the start of July. The Springbok is set to add firepower and experience should he take to the field.

“It has been a gruelling past few weeks of competitive rugby in the round stages of the Currie Cup, where the team has seen plenty of learning and growth while being tested by quality opposition,” said Bulls director of rugby Jake White.

“Yes, we are close to the business end of the competition, the playoffs, but we still have a tough Cheetahs team to face in this final round. They too will be out to end their campaign on a high note, while we will be intent on drawing closer to that perfect game which will be needed in the knockout stages.”

The match will kick-off at 4.45pm and will be televised on SuperSport.
