Griffons winger Richman Gora was named Hero of the Day after his side beat Free State 41-27 on the opening day of the U18 Craven Week in Stellenbosch.
Gora, a Grade 10 pupil at Welkom Gym, was electric from the start as his pace and stepping prowess opened up the Cheetahs defence for what was the try of the day. He received a wide pass from his inside centre, burst past one defender, stepped inside the efforts of another two, ran at the space and passed long for flanker Gift Dlamini to finish under the posts.
Gora was instrumental in another try, as he grubbered inside after gathering his own chip to set up a try for Siya Nxgesha, before grabbing one of his own to cap off an outstanding performance, and an impressive upset for the Griffons on the opening day.
‘Our coach tells us to play every game like it’s our last, so we played to the very best of our abilities and left everything out on the field,' he told SARugbymag.co.za. ‘If we train hard and put in every effort, we can go all the way this year.’
