Craven Week Hero of the Day (Day 4)

Eastern Province fullback Keanu Vers was a delight to watch in his side's 19-5 victory over Free State at the U18 Craven Week, writes BRENTON CHELIN in Middelburg.

Having already grabbed himself a try, courtesy of a perfectly weighted chip kick from fellow Grey PE star Curwin Bosch, he was heavily involved in Eastern Province's second try.

Following great hands from eighthman Junior Pokomela, he received the ball on the right touchline, handed-off a Cheetahs defender before accelerating past another and then neatly slipped the ball inside for Athi Mayinje to go over for a great team try. It was exhibition rugby from EP, and Kers's involvement was enough to make him the Coca-Cola Hero of the Day.

SARugbymag.co.za had a word with the Grey PE student following his match-winning performance.

'It feels great to be in the final match in my final year of Craven Week,' said Vers. 'We didn't play well in the second half where our execution let us down, but hopefully we can sort that out before Saturday. SWD will be tough opponents but if we play for 80 minutes, we can get the win.'
