Currie Cup fever hits Cape Town

What the Cape newspapers are saying ahead of Saturday's final at Newlands.

Rugby is on the front and back pages of Friday's Cape Argus, Cape Times and Die Burger with the two English newspapers also having eight-page Currie Cup final pullouts.

'Lions not king in this Jungle' is the headline on the front of the Argus. They speak to Carel du Plessis, who captained WP to a 22-9 win against Transvaal in the 1986 final.

'The best two teams are in the final, there's no doubt about that,' said Du Plessis. 'Both teams have shown a willingness to run the ball and spread it to the wings which will make for thrilling rugby.'

The front page of the Cape Times shows the special embroidered jersey that WP will wear in the final, with the back page headline 'Cup final nerves? Not WP' relating to a story about how relaxed the hosts are ahead of the game.

Die Burger has a photo of WP in a huddle after their captain's run on the front page, while the back-page story is about WP questioning Saru's scrum consultant Balie Swart's role in South African rugby after the former Bok prop praised the Lions scrum ahead of the final.
