Former Bok wounded in farm attack

Former Springbok hooker Lukas van Biljon was reportedly stabbed and his father shot when six men attacked them on the family’s Free State farm.

According to reports on Netwerk24 and the UK’s Daily Mail, Van Biljon, 47, was wounded and his children tied up as the group ransacked the family farm at Oranjeville in the Free State on Sunday.

SAPS spokesperson Loraine Earle was quoted that two of the alleged attackers were arrested after local farmers were alerted and the suspects apprehended after blocking off roads.

“Just after midnight on Saturday the police were called to a robbery at a smallholding at Oranjeville belonging to the Van Biljon family where two men were injured,” Earle said.

“It is alleged that six armed men entered the house and tied the children with cable ties and a 47-year-old man was stabbed and his 70-year-old father shot during the robbery.”

The Daily Mail quoted a farmer who is believed to know the Van Biljons well, saying: “Lukas is a big strong boy but he could do nothing as it was made clear his children would be shot if he put up a fight.

“He was still stabbed several times but it is father Andre who is the worry as he is in intensive care in a very bad way from gunshots.”

Van Biljon, who also represented the Cats, Sharks and Stormers, made 13 appearances for the Boks between 2001 and 2003.
