The Blitzboks suffered a heavy defeat in their opening match of the Toulouse Sevens against hosts France at the Stade Ernest-Wallon on Friday.
Tournament hosts France scored five tries against the Springbok Sevens to stride to a comfortable 31-7 victory in the Pool C opener.
The Blitzboks never respected the ball when they were in possession, were fooled into two-on-one tackles which handed France easy offloads and generally fell off tackles they were expected to make.
To add to their misery, discipline was a problem too and Ronald Brown was yellow carded in the first half, handing France an easy score because of that.
France took a 12-0 lead into the break, through tries from Theo Forner and Jordan Sepho.
The Blitzboks continued to make errors in the second half as France extended their lead to 24 points. While an excellent tackle from the returning Justin Geduld set James Murphy up for a try for South Africa, that was a mere consolation as France capped off the victory with another try before full time.
