Frans wants Cheetahs backs to fire

Cheetahs coach Frans Steyn demands an improved performance from his backline against the SWD Eagles in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

The Free Staters scored six tries in their 38-31 home win against the Griffons last weekend, which moved them up to fourth on the SA Cup log, but Steyn was not satisfied.

“If the backline doesn’t fire this weekend, there will be changes,” Steyn warned his players, as reported by Netwerk24.

There could be a change to the midfield for Saturday, though, with Raegan Oranje having recovered from a knee injury.

SA CUP WRAP: Cheetahs claw into top four

Steyn said the Cheetahs wouldn’t underestimated the Eagles, who have lost four of their five matches.

“From what I have seen of them, I think they have more structure than the Griffons.

“It is not going to be easy, everyone knows a rugby ball is not round. We also saw against the Griffons at the weekend that we were all over them in the first half, but we just couldn’t get points. They also gave away a few yellow cards and 17 penalties and look what the score was.

“SWD also have good ball-carriers and exciting outside backs. We have to be at our best. We owe it to ourselves and our supporters to come up with a good performance for once.”
