Glenwood scored nine tries to thrash Durban High School 55-12 at Glenwood on Saturday. DYLAN JACK reports.
In a clinical performance, the Green Machine was simply too strong and clinical, rarely exiting DHS’ 22 without scoring points.
The hosts took an early 10-0 lead thanks to well-worked tries from No 8 George Luzulo and lock Lunga Ncube. The visitors were hardly helped when wing Malusi Ntuli was yellow-carded for a deliberate knockd0wn.
While Ntuli was off, Glenwood added a further try when centre Conan le Fleur powered over the line.
On the brink of half-time, Glenwood flyhalf Dylan Pretorius produced a moment of magic, collecting a chipped 22m dropout from scrumhalf Jaden Hendrikse and sprinting 70m to score.
The visitors made an excellent start to the second half, though, pressuring the Glenwood line after Luzulo was yellow-carded for a deliberate foul, seeing Ntuli redeem himself with a try out wide.
However, centre Rynardt Jonker ran a good line on to a flick pass from scrumhalf Hendrikse to again extend Glenwood’s lead. The yellow card did not seem to deter the home side as they added a second during the period through fullback Joe Jonas.
Ncube then showed good strength to go over for his brace, before Jonker showed good pace to grab his second. Wing Jean Roux brought up Glenwood’s half-century with a try in the corner.
DHS fullback Ulrich Brown ran clear after he got a good offload from No 8 Celimpilo Gumede to score a late consolation try for DHS.
