Folau’s brother released by Waratahs

John Folau has been granted an immediate release by the Waratahs for personal reasons in an apparent act of solidarity with brother Israel.

Rugby Australia recently terminated Israel’s contract after the star fullback posted on social media that homosexuals among others were destined for hell. The Sydney Morning Herald reports that John, who is six years younger than Israel and yet to play for the Sydney-based side, will also leave the franchise.

The ordeal has taken its toll on the younger sibling, and he has asked the Waratahs for a release.

‘John has been in a difficult position for the last wee while,’ said Waratahs coach Daryl Gibson. ‘He has got really divided loyalties to his family and his brother, and then also to the team.

‘He wanted to stress how much he enjoyed being with the team, and what a difficult decision it was for him.’
