Italian loosehead props Andrea Lovotti and Nicola Quaglio will both be cited for their involvement in a tip-tackle on Springbok No 8 Duane Vermeulen.
Lovotti and Quaglio were both involved in a dangerous tackle on Vermeulen during the Springboks’ win over Italy in Shizuoka on Friday.
While replays showed that both were culpable, referee Wayne Barnes determined that Lovotti was mostly to blame and showed him a red card while not punishing Quaglio.
However, citing commissioner John Montgomery has decided to cite Quaglio for his involvement in the tackle.
Should the duo be banned, Italy could be facing a front-row crisis ahead of their final World Cup match against the All Blacks as they lost both of their tightheads to injury in the first half against the Boks.
