Following his conviction, here are the details of the fraudulent dealings that led to former Bulls high performance manager Xander Janse van Rensburg’s jail sentence.

Janse van Rensburg’s conviction and sentencing comes after the Bulls launched a forensic investigation into his fraudulent activities and the findings of the internal forensic investigation provided sufficient evidence against him for criminal charges to be brought.

Some of Janse van Rensburg’s alleged illegal dealings included demanding and receiving a R60,000 payment from a current BBC employee to be reappointed in his position, a R1-million tender awarded to a guesthouse that belongs to one of his family members, the use of R50,000 attributed on the books as pocket money for one of the Bulls’ tours of Australasia, kickback payments made to players and their agents, and paying a schoolboy R1-million to join the union.

Furthermore, Janse van Rensburg also paid for beverages at his wedding and other personal functions with money from the union’s bank accounts without authorisation from his superiors, while the purchase of equipment – like camera lenses, drones and a stack of clothing from a Japanese company – were all on the Bulls’ books, but none of it were ever in the union’s possession.
