Jantjies set for surgery

Lions flyhalf Elton Jantjies is set for an extended period on the sidelines after fracturing his wrist in last Saturday's clash against the Cheetahs.

Jantjies will undergo surgery on Tuesday, and while the Lions have not yet confirmed how long he is likely to be out of action, it will undoubtedly be for some time.

It's a considerable blow for the Lions, with Jantjies having emerged as the form South African flyhalf this season. The Lions are now likely to turn to youngster Jaco van der Walt, with former Springbok Marnitz Boshoff having recently signed a two-year deal with Connacht.

Meanwhile, influential flanker Jaco Kriel is being closely monitored after sustaining a concussion against the Cheetahs.

Beneficially, the Lions have a bye this weekend.
