Japan coming for SA schoolboys

Two promising schoolboy rugby players could swap biltong for sushi as Japan’s League One clubs target South Africa’s junior talent.

Paarl Boys’ High twins, centre Tristan and lock Jayden Joubert, recently spent a week in Japan at the invitation of a top club, having also attracted interest from the Bulls, Lions and Stormers.

“They are in high demand, but the twins have not yet made a final decision. They are now focusing on Boishaai and having a good matric year,” a source told Rapport.

According to Rapport, Japanese clubs also targeted Grey College centre Ethan Adams and lock AJ Meyer, who have both decided to stay in South Africa.
