Vodacom Bulls target Ashley Johnson has reportedly turned down a move to Pretoria to stay at English Premiership side Wasps.
The former Springbok loose forward – who has become a fan favourite in Coventry since moving to England in 2012 – was reported to have been targeted by Bulls director of rugby Jake White.
However, according to Sport24, the 33-year-old has turned down the opportunity to return to South Africa as he does not want to unsettle his family. Johnson still has a year left on his contract with Wasps but is being looked at for a potential role with English rugby’s governing body, the RFU, though it is not known what that role would be.
The Bulls have already brought two experienced players back to South Africa from overseas in fullback Gio Aplon and prop Marcel van der Merwe. They have also been linked to moves for Cheetahs second rowers Walt Steenkamp and Sintu Manjezi, as well as young loosehead prop Jan-Hendrik Wessels.
