Cheslin Kolbe’s try guided Toulouse to a 24-16 win over Wasps, while there were also European Champions Cup wins for Gloucester, the Glasgow Warriors, Leinster and Toulon on Saturday.
Toulouse continued their fine form in Europe by winning their third match to stay top of Pool 1, while Wasps remain at the bottom of the pool with just three points in the bag.
In a see-saw game, which Wasps were never out of, the English side took the lead thanks to a penalty from flyhalf Lima Sopoaga.
However, Kolbe then produced a bit of magic to put the visitors ahead. Standing as the first receiver off a scrum, the Springbok took a flat pass and spun through an attempted tackle before sprinting well over 50m for the game’s opening try.
Cheslin Kolbe is absolutely lethal coming off that wing ?
Toulouse go 60+ meters for the try before Wasps knew what hit them!

Wasps fullback Elliot Daly and Toulouse flyhalf Tomas Ramos traded penalties, but the French side was then handed a blow when tighthead prop Maks van Dyk was sent to the sin bin for a high tackle. Wasps took full advantage, as after an initial strong carry from centre Michael Le Bourgeois, it was flank Will Rowlands who reached over to put them 13-11 up at the break.
That lead was not to last very long, as 10 minutes into the second half a poor defensive error allowed outside centre Sofiane Guitoune to burst through a tackle and go all the way for Toulouse’s second try of the match.
Ramos kicked a further two penalties, but Wasps were then given hope of a comeback when Toulouse were again reduced by a man after Benoit Madaule stamped on Brad Shields. Despite an added three-pointer from Daly, Toulouse hung on for the win.
In other results, Gloucester claimed a crucial 27-19 victory over winless Exeter to temporarily climb to the top of Pool 2, the Glasgow Warriors powered to a bonus-point 42-22 win against Lyon, an intercept try from Jordan Larmour gave Leinster a 17-10 win in Bath, while tries from Henry Immelman and Frans Steyn were not enough as Montpellier went down 38-28 against Toulon.
