Krige ‘ashamed’ of hit on Dawson

Corné Krige hits Matt Dawson Corné Krige hits Matt Dawson
Standard published on November 1, 2018

Former Springbok captain Corné Krige has apologised to Matt Dawson for a dangerous tackle on the ex-England scrumhalf in 2002.

The incident took place during the Boks’ infamous 53-3 loss at Twickenham, during which lock Jannes Labuschagne received a red card for a late tackle on England flyhalf Jonny Wilkinson.

On Wednesday, Dawson responded to a tweet asking what ban Krige would have got for his hit on him if it had happened today.

Dawson said: ‘I’d love to say I remember it well but he knocked me in to the next day…. I played on for 10/15 mins calling all my club moves… unfortunately I do fear there’ll be plenty of consequences in the long term for me. #brutalgame #notformykids.’

On Thursday, Krige tweeted: ‘I have apologised many times and on many platforms Matt but never to you directly. My sincere apologies. I was and am ashamed of my behaviour that day. Hope my kids never see the video. DM me your number would love to stay in touch?’
