The Springboks have a trophy cabinet that’s the envy of the rugby world, but former Lions coach Eugene Eloff says there’s yet more silverware to be won this year.
Having secured a 3-1 Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry series victory against the All Blacks, the world champions meet the Wallabies in a one-off Test in Perth next Sunday, before taking on Italy, France and Ireland in the Nations Championship in November.
“There is another competition that we have to go and win,” Eloff told Netwerk24. “And I can tell you now they are not going there just to play in it, they want to win it too.
“I think Rassie [Erasmus] will also want to further build the depth of his squad and give some younger players an opportunity.
“It will be interesting to see how the younger players measure up against Italy, France and Ireland.”

Eloff believes the Boks’ sustained success is underpinned by strong rugby structures at every level.
“Our processes are working, our school rugby is good, our U20 rugby is good. At primary-school level, the guys are already developing a rugby culture.”
