Leon MacDonald has landed a top Super Rugby role in Australia, marking his first coaching job since his sudden All Blacks exit last year.
The former Blues boss will link up with the Force as a coaching consultant, working alongside head coach Simon Cron and his backroom staff.
“I’m excited about taking on this position,” MacDonald said in a statement. “It’s a different role to that I’m accustomed to but I’m excited by that challenge and looking forward to supporting the coaches.
“The club is determined to become a real force in the Super Rugby competition. Of course, they are also based in a beautiful part of the world, so I’m looking forward to the move.

“There’s plenty of optimism and excitement building around Australia rugby again. I was excited to be a part of this resurgence.”
According to the New Zealand Herald, MacDonald’s move could also position him as a future Wallabies candidate once Joe Schmidt steps down after the 2025 Rugby Championship.
MacDonald departed as All Blacks attack coach just five Tests into Scott Robertson’s tenure, reportedly due to irreconcilable differences.
Since leaving the All Blacks, MacDonald has frequently been linked with a future Wallabies role, given his strong connection with Schmidt from their time at the Blues.
