Flank Johan Meyer starred in Zebre’s dramatic 24-10 win over Connacht, while there were also victories for Munster, Leinster, the Glasgow Warriors, Edinburgh and Cheetahs in the Pro14.
Connacht were inserted as favourites to win this clash and for the best part of the game everything went according to the script with the visitors leading in Parma. But the outcome was turned on its head as Zebre sparked to life to score two converted tries in the last 12 minutes.
Zebre led 6-0 at the break, but Connacht wrestled back the ascendancy with a dominant performance in the third quarter to take a 10-9 lead.
Then, in the 68th minute, Meyer scored a match-defining try to put Zebre back in front, before a penalty and a try by Giovanbattista Venditti consolidated their advantage.
In other matches, Chris Cloete scored one of five tries as Munster thumped the Ospreys 36-10, Leinster beat Treviso 36-10 with wing James Lowe scoring a brace on his debut, the Glasgow Warriors defeated the Cardiff Blues 40-16 to make it 10 wins from as many games and Ulster snatched a late 32-32 draw with the Dragons thanks to an 80th-minute try by Christian Lealiifano.
