Former New Zealand international Mils Muliaina says the Springboks need to start Handre Pollard if they want to beat the All Blacks in Saturday’s World Cup final.
The debate over the Springbok No 10 jersey has been given new legs after Pollard replaced Manie Libbok just 30 minutes into the semi-final against England.
Pollard ended up getting the Boks into an excellent position for their 69th-minute try with a pinpoint kick into touch, before he slotted the winning penalty from the halfway line.
“Taking Libbok off early, might be a go,” said Muliaina, during Sky Sport NZ‘s World Cup final preview.
“When you look at the All Blacks, and you look at that Twickenham game, you want to frustrate them, get them into a slow game. So does Pollard come back into play?

” Do you want to match the All Blacks at what they do? I don’t think they will. They will remember what the All Blacks did to them back in Auckland earlier this year.
“I think there might be a selection change there and Pollard comes in. I like Libbok, he brings something totally different. But with the way they want to play the All Blacks and frustrate them into making mistakes, that’s the sort of style you want to go to, the long kicking game, strangle them down at the other end and force the All Blacks to get uncomfortable, make errors and collect three points.”
