Third-placed Cardiff were held to a 13-13 draw by Ospreys in the Vodacom United Rugby Championship on Wednesday.
Cardiff outscored their Welsh rivals by two tries to one, but had to settle for two log points that leave them just three clear of the fourth-placed Vodacom Bulls, who have two games in hand.
The fifth-placed Sharks are four points behind Cardiff, with a game in hand.
Ospreys remain 14th on the log, with just three wins from nine matches.
In Wednesday’s other Welsh derby, Scarlets claimed a 32-15 bonus-point win against the Dragons in Llanelli to shoot up from 12th to sixth in the standings.
