One of the big takeaways for former Springbok coach Peter de Villiers after the opening weekend of the World Cup was the ‘indifferent refereeing’.
Talking during his masterclass on social media, De Villiers elaborated on his thoughts on some dubious calls by suggesting teams can exploit the weaknesses in the officiating to strengthen their chances in Japan.
‘They [referees] will make mistakes and not step up to the plate,’ he said. ‘There are some weaknesses that you can explore. Find out who your next referee is and try to influence people to give you those kind of referees.
