As Springbok hooker Bongi Mbonambi weighs up a contract extension at the Stormers amid interest from the Sharks, we ask our readers whether he should go or stay in 2021.
SARugbymag.co.za understands that the Sharks would like to add another high-quality hooker to their tight-five stocks, after bolstering their pack with the signings of Le Roux Roets and Reniel Hugo.
Mbonambi was a prime target, but does have an appealing contract-extension offer that has been tabled by the Stormers. However, he has yet to sign on the dotted line, leading to some reports that he could be reconsidering the Sharks deal.
The 2019 World Cup winner was linked with a move overseas – and was reportedly targeted by an English Premiership side – but turned it down to stay in Cape Town.
Mbonambi has been with the Stormers since joining from the Vodacom Bulls in 2015. To date, he has made over 60 appearances for the Stormers and won the Currie Cup with Western Province in 2017.
