Premiership: Du Preezs team up to tame Pollard’s Tigers

Robert du Preez’s 11-point haul, complemented by brother Dan’s try, helped Sale Sharks beat Handre Pollard’s Leicester Tigers.

– Four second-half tries gave Sale a 39-25 win over Leicester in Salford on Saturday. Five South Africans featured for Sale, including locks Ernst van Rhyn and Hyron Andrews and No 8 Dan du Preez. Rob du Preez scored 11 points from the tee while Jean-Luc du Preez replaced brother Dan in the 52nd minute. Handre Pollard scored nine from the tee for Leicester while Hanro Liebenberg played the full 80 at flank.

– The Bristol Bears claimed a convincing 48-24 victory over Harlequins at Twickenham Stoop. Tyrone Green featured at fullback for Quins score a try for the home side just after the hour mark. Simon Kerrod started at tighthead prop while former Cheetahs centre Benhard Janse van Rensburg scored in the third quarter. Bristol climb up to second after their fifth win of the season while Harlequins sink to seventh in the standings.

– Newcastle Falcons survived a second-half scare to secure a first victory over Saracens in 15 years. Philip van der Walt and Sebastian de Chaves were the lock pairing for the Falcons in just their second win of the season. Scrumhalf Ivan van Zyl captained Saracens and was replaced just before the hour mark by Gareth Simpson. The Falcons 17-12 win sees them climb up to ninth on the log while Saracens maintain fourth spot.

– Ulster-bound Juarno Augustus’ try in the second half was not enough for Northampton Saints to avoid a 25-17 loss to Gloucester. Ruan Ackermann made an impact off the bench for Gloucester, replacing Jack Clement at blindside flank for the final 20 minutes.

– Front row duo Thomas du Toit and Francois van Wyk played for Bath in the 19-15 win over an Exeter Chiefs team captained by former Stormers flanker Jacques Vermeulen. Winless Exeter are rock bottom after seven rounds.

Top 14:

– Racing 92’s search for consistency continued after a 21-17 loss to table toppers Stade Toulousain in Nanterre on Saturday. Former Stormers forward Hacjivah Dayimani packed down at No 8 for the hosts.

– Bordeaux edged Montpellier in a 9-6 victory at the Stade Chaban-Delmas in round 11. Former Sharks powerhouse Rohan Janse van Rensburg faced Montpellier’s battering ram Jan Serfontein in a brutal midfield match-up.

– Rowing Bayonne secured a 21-13 win over Stade Francais on Sunday. Uzair Cassiem featured at No 8 for Bayonne while Pieter Scholtz replaced Pascal Cotet at tighthead prop. Joe Jonas started at fullback for Stade Francais.
